Color Trends 2021 Palettes and Paint Colors of the Year

It will not be an understatement to say that 2020 was a dark year. The start of the decade was marred by unfortunate events globally but slowly and steadily the world is rebounding. This is evident in the biggest color trends of 2021 which signify hope and positivity. We are already witnessing the use of calming and soothing colors that are helping people to relax and refresh as they try to get on with the new normal. As people are spending more time indoors and are looking towards a more relaxing haven, softer and harmonious hues are seeing an uptick in usage.

Palettes and Paint Colors of 2021

Pantone’s Ultimate Gray and Illuminating

Pantone’s color of the year for 2021 is not one but two – Ultimate Gray (Pantone 17-5104) and Illuminating (Pantone 13-0647). While the neutral gray feels solid and is said to represent dependability, the bright yellow Illuminating is full of hope and optimism. Pairing both the colors convey a much-needed message of strength and hopefulness.

Beige and neutral shades

Beige is just one of the ‘nude’ colors that you will be seeing frequently as part of the neutral palette or flesh-toned scheme. Earthier colors will become more popular in interiors and brands as everyone will turn to harmonious hues.

Washed-out colors

Washed-out, toned-down blue, red and yellow will be a big color trend this year. These colors do not just add a soft warmth to space, but they have a relaxing feel and are easy on the eyes.

Cool colors

In the last one year, we have had minimal interaction with the outside world. People are more confined to screens than ever before. This will be the year, where cool, comfortable colors take the center stage. From home design to graphic design, you will come across the use of cool, natural colors that do not strain your eyes.

Off-white, creamy colors

Continuing with the growing trend of colors that symbolize hope and optimism, off-white, creamy colors will dominate the design in 2021. Serene, soothing, and warming colors that bring a comforting feel, these elegant hues will grace the design world.

Color palettes that blend

As we have drummed it many times already, 2021 will be the year where people will seek more harmony and comfort around them. Palettes that blend easily into each other will be a big interior design trend this year. These color palettes will consist of shades of the same color or ones which are close in the color wheel.

Fresh Greens

Green is the color we usually associate with the outdoors. And since we’re deprived of outdoor conditions because of the lockdowns, green interior designs will see a major uptick due to its restorative and calming effect. The fresh feeling of green is second to none and this is what the design world needs during the pandemic.

2021 is not going to be the year where we see bright neon colors or intense contrasts being used anywhere. Instead, muted colors, hues and palettes that draw inspiration from natural materials, blend well together, and represent stability and unity will be at the forefront. Warm, earthy tones that connect to nature and are reminiscent of the simpler times will be at the heart of design projects in this year.
