Artificial trees and silk plants are among the best ornamental decorations to have in your home. They do not require any kind of special care and provide hassle free satisfaction. But while purchasing silk trees or artificial floral arrangements, you should make sure that the material used to produce them is fire retardant. As witnessed in the above mentioned incident, the artificial tree that caught fire was probably made from silk material which lacked fire-retardant properties. Children are very innocent and are unaware of fire danger. In order to prevent such kind of accidents, it is important that necessary precautions are taken.
The majority of states in US have adopted fire codes that address the use of artificial plants and trees. The quality of the material used in the production and its fire retardant abilities are assessed with the help of two standard tests, the NFPA 701 and ASTM E84. The next time you set out to shop for artificial plants, check to make sure the silk material used in the production is fire-retardant. After all, prevention is always better than a cure.
